I hereby appoint you the FidoSysop’s Hall Of Shame Inductee Award!

For those of you that are just tuning in. My Friend John Douglas of Fultondale Alabama, has a 21 year established small business. The Home Field Sports Grill as it is called was somewhat damaged in the April 27′th 2011 Tornado that tore through Fultondale.

It did quite a bit of damage to the business, but Mr. Douglas said it was not excessive. Even Google earth photos show the roof is still intact.

Since then, The City of Fultondale has came up with excuse after excuse attempting to discourage the Douglas Family from repairing and reopening their 21 year established business, and rejecting his plans that are needed to apply for his building permit.

So as FidoSysop sees this situation, Mayor Jim Lowery and Ed Hawkins are using a disaster that killed people, destroyed homes and businesses, to their advantage in an attempt to acquire the Home Field Sports Grill at what amounts to less than market value of the land itself.

As of 12/20/2011 The City of Fultondale has given Mr. Douglas 60 Days to either bring his Home Field Property “up-to-code” or Tear It Down! So the City will not give Mr. Douglas a building permit, but insists the property be up to code in 60 days.

What is next? I would guess the city will fine the Douglas Family $$$ per day until said property is brought up to code, and let the fines build up on the property in another attempt to break the Douglas Family’s will and acquire the property on the city’s terms, and for what the city thinks the property is worth.

Mayor Lowery is attempting a revitalization of the area where the Douglas Family’s prime property is located. The city of Fultondale has formed several non profit corporations to buy and resell property.

The city of Fultondale (through their CDA) also owns a vacant lot adjacent to the Home Field property, and needs the Home Field property to accompany that lot, making their prime piece of US-31 Frontage even more valuable.

Fultondale City Building Inspector Edward (Ed) Hawkins is listed as a registrant of 4 of these private corporations. I’m no attorney, but this sure sounds like a conflict of interest to me.

Ed Hawkins has also condemned numerous properties in the City. Suspiciously, most of these properties are located within areas included in Mayor Jim Lowery’s “Urban Revitalization Plan”.

It also explains why the Douglas Family has been getting such a run around by Ed Hawkins and other Fultondale City Hall officials when attempting to repair and reopen their 21 year old Established Business.

Mayor Lowery. Shame on you and Ed Hawkins, and any other city employees who are attempting to take advantage of one of your finest citizens.

The Douglas Family has supported the City of Fultondale with Taxes, License, and other fees paid to the city for over 21 Years!

Now you just want to toss the guy into the dumpster out back to be hauled away with the trash!
