What a Corporate Screw up Skype for Android 2.0.0.47 Is!
According to the Loud Buzz going on at the NEW Skype Forums just about everybody hates the 2.0.x format!
I also found the 2.0.0.47 version mostly useless!
My phone is a T-mobile G2 running Android 2.2.
This new version of Skype Sucks something fierce!
- It eliminates the custom ringtone settings, plus the lame ring tone is so low it’s nearly impossible to hear!
- The proximity sensor shuts off the phone after i answer a call and raise the phone to my head.
- The speaker icon does not work in a call, so you can’t switch to the speaker after answering a call.
- If you log out – it forgets your password and is annoying to re-enter it every time.
- And on top of that – the New Interface Sucks big time too!
Those are my main complaints about this worthless POS!
I went searching for the last 1.0.x version of Skype Android last night from my G2 while laying in bed, what a PITA that was. There were so many search results that claim “Download Skype Android Here” but they were either redirects, required memberships, or wanted my credit card.. No Thanks!
I finally found the last Skype Android V1 version which actually is “1.0.0.984.apk” this version was to patch a security hole. It IS the last GOOD V-1 Android app before the current disaster was released!
I have it HERE on my server for immediate download. Or you can download it from Freeware Lovers which is where i got it with no foreplay. LOL!
To install i recommend first removing any other version of Skype Android you may be using.
Next go into your phones configuration under settings > applications > check “unknown sources”. This will allow installation for NON Android Market apps.
That’s about it. I have this version installed in my G2 and it’s working great!

How do I install this file? I have an LG Optimus V with Android. I tried connecting my phone via usb and then transferring the file to the phone from the desktop but then I can’t find it on the phone. If you could provide detailed instructions would be great!
All i did was download the file with my Google G2 and install it by tapping the download icon. Sorry but i don’t know about other devices.

thx for the info. For those that can’t install it as you did, I did some research and found out the hard way that there is a very difficult way to do it that it time consuming and might not work and there is an easy way to do it. Here is a link to the easy way:

You also have to turn on the setting in the phone to allow installation of 3rd party apps. Thx for the file, I have installed it and will see how it works.

I have the 2.1 OP and my mic is with problems, i can ear the other person but they can’t ear me.

I’m wondering if Skype is going to let Microsoft’s people write a new app? Since they have already sold it, I don’t see much motivation on their part to fix the POS!

I’m still using the old 1.0.0.984 version with my T-mobile Android G2 Phone and it works very well.
Thank U soooo much mate, I was almost forced to upgrade my Skype Mobile and that new version was driving me nuts! Awful graphics, no automatic launch anymore but most of all no more communication anymore. Why do they make available for downloading such a piece of crap? Thank U again!
