Is Anyone Using Skype Android With A T-Mobile G2 Phone?
Greetings Everyone..
Has anyone had any success using Skype on the T-mobile 3G and 4G Network without using WIFI?
I have a G2 Android Phone with service from T-Mobile. My Android Skype app is version 1.0.0.983 which is the latest available according to Skype’s website.
I also have a local Skype phone number that i use with my business. It would be much handier to have the Skype Android app work, rather than forward my Skype calls to my cell phone.
My installation does work but sometimes it does not ring. Probably a good 50% of the time the phone simply does not ring. I have tested this in my home in two different places that have good network signal strength, with the WIFI turned off. Even with the WIFI ON sometimes it will not ring.
I found this tidbit on the web earlier: Skype released an update to its Android mobile application today which fixes the recently reported security issues in addition to bringing 3G calling to U.S. users. Earlier this month, reports of a security vulnerability in the Android version of the app were found which could compromise personal information, including a user’s name, phone number, chat logs and more. According to Skype, no reported examples of malicious applications misusing this information have been found, but the company will continue to monitor the situation after the fix has been rolled out.
However, the more exciting news for U.S. users of the Android application is support for 3G calling, which had previously been limited to select Verizon phones.
Emails to Skype support claim that only Verizon subscribers can use Skype for Android. So if so why does mine work some of the time on T-Mobile?
Hello Edward,
Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service.
We understand your concerns regarding that you cannot receive calls sometimes on Skype on your mobile. We are more than willing to assist you regarding this issue.
Kindly note that Skype needs a stable connection to be active upon receiving calls. We recommend always to be connected to a stable WiFi connection.
Kindly note that Skype is not available over 3G connection inside the united states except if you have a Verizon plan.
We hope you found this answer helpful. Should you need any further assistance or have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best Regards,

My Response: Verizon is not the only provider that supports Skype Android 3G. T-mobile has enabled 3G & 4G calling using Skype Android as well.
Hello Ed,
Thank you for your reply.
We understand that you wish that you want to be able to use Skype on your mobile.
Kindly note that only Verizon in US holds the sole rights to offer Skype on 3G connection, this is why you cannot sometime receive calls because you are disconnected once you are on 3G network not a WiFi connection.
Should you need more assistance, feel free to contact us again.
Best Regards,
Fatema I.

Typical Canned Response.. It just don’t make sense to me that sometimes it works and sometimes it dont. I rairly have my WIFI Enabled on my phone as i have an unlimited data plan. (At least until AT&T takes over T-mobile!)
Is anyone else having this problem? If so I would appreciate your comments below.

I had the same problem with Skype on my Samsung Droid (AT&T). I found that the “Notification Vibrate” option was checked in the Settings. Apparently Skype cannot vibrate and ring at the same time, even if the phone is capable of doing so without Skype. I tested it on both wifi and 3G, and it worked both times.
Now if I can just figure out how to make the ring LOUDER, so I can hear it, since I don’t have the added vibration notificiation, I’d be very happy!
I am using an older version (1.0.0.984.apk) because the 2.X is so screwed up!
1.0.0.984 allows selecting a ring tone from your library and is just so much better.
I have Skype Version 1.0.0.984.apk available for download here: http://t.co/p5ZpXAp
